Getting past the red tape

Today I went to the Vasai court to get my house rent agreement (HRA) prepared. How I qualify as a tenent is a long story... which I may never bore you with, but lets leave that aside for now.

The first thing that strikes you about the place is that everything is in Marathi(मराठी). There is no use of Hindi or English... Even the computer software is entirely in Marathi(मराठी) . I wonder how people who don't know Marathi get around doing things. I went there and was trying to figure out what was going on, and where I was supposed to submit the papers... when my number was called out. Being totally lost, as I had arrived just sometime ago, I couldn't reach the "right table". Till then another number was called, when I managed to get to the "right table"; I was told that I was late, and that number that were skipped would be taken at the end. I tried protesting that I was there when my number was taken and I was confused about what was the "right table". But the fellow was adamant that skipped number were attend to only at the end. You could tell that he was one of those saddist who got a lot of pleasure in troubling others and was enjoying himself.

It was at this time that I happened to look at the papers on his table. Boy, he had a lot of them. But what caught my eye was a list of numbers in front of him, and that was when I saw that there weren't too many numbers left, there were just 10 (big mistake... I didn't know that a single number could take upto 30 mins; well but as they say, "ignorance is bliss" and this once ignorance just worked for me), and armed with the knowledge that only 10 more numbers were to go I prepared to spend some time there.

I took out my n73 (I carry the headphone almost everywhere these days), so I just plugged them in, and sat down to enjoy the best singers entertain me. Naturally I was having a great time there. I don't think anyone, even that sadist there had ever had that great a time in that office. It seems after some time he just couldn't bear to see someone having so must fun there... and I was polluting all the gloomy, sad atmosphere he had created around himself.

As soon as the number he was attending was done... he called me. And my work was done in a jiff! It was nice to see that the whole process is totally computerized. Right from feeding in the details to adding your photograph and thumb-print. (Oh yes... The software is totally in Marathi). You are instantly given a print of your the agreement, photo, thumb-print and all added. And that about completes it.

The photo that you see above is probably of agreements that were never attended. They have been there for so long that you will find cob-webs and dust all over it. It would be a real bad to work with all that surrounding you. Maybe "The Sadist" like his lair to be that way. While I was there I realized that the place didn't look all that bad(from out-side)! See!!
